Barcelona 1974 - No.9 Cruyff.

The 1973–74 season saw the arrival of Johan Cruyff, who was bought for a world record £920,000 fee from Ajax, and as one would expect from the worlds outstanding footballer, he instantly had a massive impact, and would ultimately change the history of the club.

Cruyff quickly won over the Barcelona fans when he told the European press he chose Barça over Real Madrid because he could not play for a club associated with the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. He further endeared himself when he chose a Catalan name, Jordi, for his son.

A year after he moved to Camp Nou, he helped the club win La Liga for the first time since 1960, along the way defeating Real Madrid 5–0 at the Bernabéu and was also crowned European Footballer of the Year, a title he would claim twice in succession.

He returned to manage Barça in 1988, and although his impressive haul of 11 trophies has since been surpassed by his former pupil Josep Guardiola, Cruyff has been Barcelona's longest serving manager to date.

Inter Milan.

Since its founding in 1908, Inter have worn black and blue stripes - black being chosen to represent night, blue the sky.
Aside from a short period during World War II, Inter continued to wear the black and blue stripes, earning them the nickname Nerazzurri.

AC Milan 1990 - No.9 van Basten.

One of the most glorious footballers of the last half-century and one of the sport’s great what-if stories.
"He remains the best striker of all time in my opinion," His manager at Milan Arrigo Sacchi once said of the Dutchman. "No other forward has worked as hard for the team as Marco did at Milan. Above all, however, I remember him for his elegance, his grace and his incredible ability."

In the 1990 European Cup final Milan beat Benfica with van Basten assisting Rijkaard with the only goal of the game to retain the trophy.
The Rossoneri of 1990, nicknamed the "Immortals" in the Italian media, has since been voted the best club side of all time in a global poll of experts conducted by World Soccer magazine.

In purely statistical terms, Marco van Basten’s career was fruitful by anyone’s standards.
The 'Swan of Utrecht' scored 301 goals and won two European Cups, 14 domestic trophies and three Ballon d’Ors. But these numbers are rendered doubly impressive due to how tragically truncated his time as a footballer was – he played his last game at the age of 28.

Equally comfortable off either foot, Van Basten could hit fizzing raspers and deft curlers, long-rangers and one-on-one finishes, free-kicks, penalties and headers.
In the spirit of the Dutch footballing culture that he sprung from, Van Basten was staggeringly multi-talented, perhaps the most complete striker in history.

Ajax 1973 - No.7 Neeskens.

Spotted by Rinus Micheals and signed for Ajax in 1970, Johan Neeskens was a shining light in the legendary team that won 3 consecutive European cups between 1971 and 1973.
One of the first box to box midfielders - "He was worth two men in midfield," said teammate Sjaak Swart.

Technically superb, a prolific goalscorer and tireless runner, he was the platform that elevated Johan Cruyff to become the worlds best player in the seventies.
In 2017 he was included in the FourFourTwo list of the 100 all-time greatest players, at the 64th position.

Famous for his impetuous headers and his penalty kicks; regarded as authentic canons, he was signed by Barcelona, along with Cruyff, the following year after an impressive World Cup in West Germany in 1974.

Inter Milan 1984 - No.2 Bergomi.

Guiseppe Bergomi lived up to the expectations he garnered having successfully marked Rumminegge out of the 1982 World Cup final. Two decades with Internazionale made him synonymous to the club. Despite serving for Inter during one of their most unsuccessful years in terms of silverware, he was able to eventually lift several trophies including the 1989 Scudetto.

Efficient and hardworking – his playing style was of the ‘old school’ Italian defenders, driven by pragmatism and physicality. He strenuously marshaled his team mates as the leader on the pitch and went on to captain the Nerrazurri for many years.

For a while he held the records for both the most appearances in European competition by an Italian player and the most Milan derbies played, both later broken by Paolo Maldini.
Bergomi retired in 1999 at the age of almost 36, holding the record of most appearances for Inter (519) until 2011 when he was overtaken by Javier Zanetti.
With 96 appearances, he currently holds the record for most appearances in the UEFA Cup.

France 1984 - No.10 Platini.

At international level, the peerless Michel Platini led France to the 1984 European Championship, scoring nine goals and being named player of the tournament in the process, while also playing a role in their third-place finishes at the 1982 and 1986 World Cups. In 72 caps appearances for his country, Platini netted 41 goals.

Whether drifting between defenders to meet crosses, picking his spot from 15 yards or thrashing goalwards from 25, his composure and technique was often unfailing.

Three times a Ballon d'Or winner, Platini was a magnificent passer off either foot with the most fantastic vision, of which his deadly freekicks were a testament, capable of shaping a game to suit his will while also proving himself as a leader of men.

Lazio 1984 - No.9 Giordano.

Born in the capital Giordano soon revealed himself to be one of the most effective Italian strikers, winning the Serie A capocannoniere title during the 1978–79 season, scoring 19 goals.
With his powerful and accurate shooting the fans regarded him as the heir of Lazio's all-time top scorer Giorgio Chinaglia.

In 1980, he was arrested under the charge of participating in the national footballing betting scandal, and he was banned from the Italian championship until 1982.
Lazio had been demoted to the Serie B following their involvement in the scandal, and upon his return to competitive football, Giordano became the Serie B top goalscorer during the 1982 season, helping his team back into Serie A.

In 1985, he was sold to Napoli for 5 billion lire where along with Diego Maradona and later Careca, he formed the famed "Ma-Gi-Ca" front line.
Giordano, and the rest of the attacking trio, was instrumental in Napoli's first historical scudetto win of 1987.
