Corinthians 1983 - No.8 Socrates.

One of the most elegant midfield generals in soccer history, Socrates was never a teenage star and didn’t make his debut in the Brazilian national team until he was 25. Blessed with wonderful skill and vision, he seemed to have so many options when he was on the ball.

Utterly composed he was able to play the ball wherever and whenever he wanted.
In 1983 he was named South American player of the year which prompted a move to Fiorentina.

Easily recognizable for his beard and headband, 'Dr Sócrates' became the "symbol of cool for a whole generation of football supporters".

He was a technical playmaker, known for great through passes as well as his physical strength. He was also a two-footed player and a prolific goal scorer. His ability to read the game was highly valued, and his signature move was the blind heel pass. Rightly considered to be one of the greatest midfielders ever.

Sparta Prague 1995 - No.11 Nedved.

A football fanatic from a young age, Pavel Nedvěd would go on to become one of the most successful Czech players of all time.
He started playing for Dukla Prague, but remained with the club only one season before joining city rivals Sparta Prague in 1992.

With Sparta, Nedvěd won one Czechoslovak First League and two Gambrinus liga titles, as well as one Czech Cup.
But it was Nedvěd's performances at Euro 1996 playing for the national side, including a goal in the group stage match against Italy, that gained him notoriety; and despite apparently having a verbal agreement with PSV Eindhoven, Nedvěd made the move from Sparta to Italian Serie A outfit Lazio.

Well known for his energy and tireless runs, refined dribbling, as well as his powerful shooting and goal scoring abilities, Nedvěd was nicknamed 'Furia Ceca' by Italian fans - 'The Czech Cannon' in English-speaking media.
Captain of his country, Nedved won the Ballon d'Or in 2003 becoming only the second Czech player in history to be European footballer of the year.

Huracan.

Club Atletico Huracán was founded in November 1908 in the Nueva Pompeya neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The club's name and nickname (Globo, literally means "Balloon") comes from the Huracán ("Hurricane") balloon flown by Jorge Newbery in 1909.

Its supporters are called los Quemeros ("the Burners") because the stadium is located in a former garbage burning area.
Since its establishment, Huracán has won 13 domestic titles (including five Primera División championships, and most recently the 2014 Supercopa Argentina).

Lazio 1984 - No.11 Laudrup.

Michael Laudrup impressed in the 1983 season for Brøndby, and was sold for a Danish transfer record to defending Serie A champions Juventus.
He was due to sign for Liverpool the same year on a 3-year contract, but Liverpool at the last minute changed the contract to 4 years and Laudrup decided not to join.

Laudrup's career would go on to be spectacular but it didnt go immediatly to plan. Under restriction of a maximum two foreign players in each team, of which Juventus already had Boniek and Platini, Laudrup was initially loaned to newly promoted Rome club Lazio for a single season, something that Laudrup had not been informed about before signing.

With Lazio, he scored two goals in his Serie A debut in a 2–4 loss to Verona. In his first year at the club, Lazio narrowly avoided relegation, but with still no place available at Juve, Laudrup had to stay for another year. Lazio started the 1984–85 season badly, and they finished dead last and were relegated to Serie B, with Laudrup scoring just a single goal that season.

Newcastle United 1996 - No.14 Ginola.

David Ginola played for ten seasons in his native France before making the move from PSG to Newcastle United in July 1995 for £2.5 million, becoming a flamboyant part of the memorable "Entertainers" Newcastle side of this era.
Having been blamed unceremoniously for the failure of the French national team to make it to the 1994 World cup finals Ginola took his frustrations out on Premier League defences and helped Kevin Keegans United to 2nd in the table, although they should have beaten Manchester Utd to the title.

A massive favourite with the fans, some of whom had nicknamed him "David Copperfield" because of his ability to conjure up magic, Ginola was the creative spark within a well balanced team that just tried to outscore their opponents.
When Keegan departed in January 1997, the writing was on the wall for Ginola and he was soon heading to Spurs.
In 1999, Dutch legend Johan Cruyff remarked that it was his belief that Ginola was currently the best player in the world.

Boca Juniors 1988.

Boca versus city neighbours River Plate is as passionate and fierce as football matches come, to the point where no away tickets are allocated to the games!
Leopoldo Luque, a 1978 World Cup-winner with Argentina says: “Anyone who says it’s just another game is lying. It is not only the Argentinian Superclasico, it is also the South American Superclasico.”

“River is a team that goes out to attack,” ex-Boca playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme explains. “They don’t go out to defend because their fans make them take the initiative.” Roberto Passucci, a tough tackling midfielder from the 1980s Boca team, adds: “History shows that Boca traditionally score a goal and defend that lead with tooth and nail. River’s history show they want to win playing well. That is the difference between the two clubs.”

Olympique Marseille 1996.

Marseille returned to the top flight in 1996 after their enforced demotion due to match fixing. Rolland Courbis as coach built a strong unit and over the next few seasons signed the likes of Fabrizio Ravanelli, Laurent Blanc, Andreas Köpke, Robert Pirès and Christophe Dugarry, culminating in a second-place finish in the French championship, behind Bordeaux and an appearance in the UEFA Cup Final in 1999, losing to Parma.

Aston Villa 1982.

Strong in defence as well as being fast and effective in attack, Aston Villa had been forged into a well balanced team that were a match for any collection of big name players. And it was proved as the West German champions Bayern Munich were undone despite having so many World Cup winning players in their side.

Villa have never come close to matching their 1982 European Cup triumph before or since, but on that night in Rotterdam they produced a performance worthy of the biggest stage and, allied with their displays on the way to the final, was enough to make them deserved of the title ‘Champions of Europe.’

Inter Milan 1982 - No.9 Altobelli.

Nicknamed Spillo - 'Needle' - for his slender build, Alessandro Altobelli was one of the most effective Italian strikers of the late 1970s and 1980s. Following spells at Latina and Brescia, he was signed by Internazionale in 1977, for whom he played 466 times, scoring 209 goals in an eleven year spell.

He was instrumental in the club's 1980 Scudetto and two Coppa Italia's in that golden era for the Nerazzurri.
Altobelli spent the 1988/89 season with Juventus before ending his career in Serie B again with Brescia the following season.

Parma 1999 - No.9 Crespo.

Hernan Crespo had a difficult start to his career with Parma having left River Plate in 1996. He failed to score in his first six months at the club and was routinely booed with head coach Carlo Ancelotti coming in for much criticism for keeping faith with the selection of Crespo. His faith was, however, vindicated: the young Argentine went on to score 12 times in 27 matches in his first Serie A season and Parma finished runners-up to Juventus.

Newcastle United 1984 - No.8 Beardsley.

The pacey, incisive and skillful forward was an instant hit with the Newcastle supporters, scoring and setting up spectacular goals from the moment he stepped onto St. James Park. He formed an exciting strike partnership with Kevin Keegan, in his final season as a player, and their goals helped Newcastle to promotion to the top flight. Beardsley's career would have echoes of that enjoyed by Keegan and both can be considered Tyneside legends.

After returning from the 1986 World Cup, Beardsley helped a struggling Newcastle to avoid relegation, before Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish made a national record £1.9 million offer. Manager Willie McFaul accepted and Beardsley was on his way to Merseyside after four seasons on Tyneside which had brought a total of a 61 goals in 147 appearances.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed in his autobiography that he had made a bid for Beardsley, but McFaul had rejected the offer.
Beardsley would return to Newcastle later in his career, signed by Keegan, and nearly captained them to the title only to be pipped by Manchester United in 1996.

The great idol of the Tifosi in the successful 1930s Italian team that won back to back World Cups, Guiseppe “Peppino” Meazza was the Azzurri's first superstar footballer.
